EV/IV Calculator Guide - Complete Guide to Training the Strongest Pokémon
📚 What are EV and IV?
IV (Individual Values) are hidden values that each Pokémon is born with, ranging from 0 to 31. IVs determine a Pokémon's innate potential and cannot be changed through training. 31 is the highest IV value, commonly referred to as "perfect IVs" or "6V" (meaning all six stats are 31).
EV (Effort Values) are training points obtained by defeating specific Pokémon and can be freely distributed. Each Pokémon can receive a maximum of 510 EVs, but only 252 EVs can be allocated to a single stat. Proper EV distribution is key to improving a Pokémon's battle performance.
🎯 How to Use the EV/IV Calculator?
Step 1: Enter Basic Pokémon Information
- Enter your Pokémon's Level (1-100)
- Select Nature (affects stat increases/decreases)
- Enter Base HP and Base Stat (can be found in the Pokédex)
Step 2: Enter Current Stat Values
- Enter your Pokémon's Current HP and Current Stat Value
- If you know some EV values, you can enter them to improve calculation accuracy
Step 3: View Calculation Results
- The calculator will display the possible IV range (minimum, most likely, maximum)
- It will also show the possible EV range to help you understand your current training progress
🏆 Optimal EV Distribution Strategies
1. Physical/Special Attack Pokémon (252/252/4 Distribution)
The most common distribution: allocate 252 EVs to the main attack stat (Attack or Special Attack), 252 EVs to Speed, and the remaining 4 EVs to HP. Suitable for fast, high-damage Pokémon.
Recommended Pokémon: Dragonite, Garchomp, Lucario, etc.
2. Defensive Pokémon (252/252/4 Distribution)
Allocate 252 EVs to HP, 252 EVs to Defense or Special Defense, and the remaining 4 EVs to the other defense stat. Suitable for tanks and support Pokémon in your team.
Recommended Pokémon: Blissey, Chansey, Snorlax, etc.
3. Balanced Pokémon (Flexible Distribution)
Depending on the Pokémon's role and team needs, you can try different distributions, such as 128/128/252 (balanced offenses + Speed) or 252/128/128 (main attack + balanced defenses).
4. Special Tactical Distributions
Some Pokémon require specific EV distributions to trigger certain tactics, such as "0 Speed" Trick Room members or "minimum Speed" builds. Using the calculator can help you precisely control stat values.
💡 Best Choices for Training Perfect Pokémon
IV Value Selection Recommendations
- Battle Pokémon: Aim for 6V (all 31) or at least 5V (Physical attackers can have 0 Special Attack, Special attackers can have 0 Attack)
- Special Tactics: Some situations require 0 Speed or 0 Attack IVs, such as Trick Room teams or preventing confusion self-damage
- Collection Pokémon: Lower IV requirements, mainly focused on shininess and appearance
Nature Selection Recommendations
Natures affect stat increases/decreases (+10%/-10%). Choose natures that match your Pokémon's role:
- Physical Attackers: Adamant (+Attack/-Sp. Attack) or Jolly (+Speed/-Sp. Attack)
- Special Attackers: Modest (+Sp. Attack/-Attack) or Timid (+Speed/-Attack)
- Defensive Pokémon: Bold (+Defense/-Attack), Calm (+Sp. Defense/-Attack), etc.
Quick Training Tips
- Use Power Items (Power Bracer, Power Belt, etc.) to speed up EV training
- Defeat specific Pokémon to gain corresponding EVs: defeat Rattata for Speed EVs, defeat Machop for Attack EVs
- Use Berries to reduce unwanted EV values and redistribute them
- Use Feathers at Pokémon Centers to precisely increase EVs by 1 point
⚡ Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I know my Pokémon's IV values?
A: In the game, after completing certain story events, you can check IV ratings at Pokémon Centers. You can also use this calculator to reverse-calculate IV ranges based on stat values.
Q: Can EVs be reset?
A: Yes. Using specific berries (such as Pomeg Berry to reduce HP EVs) can lower EV values, then you can retrain. You can also use moves like "Clear Smog".
Q: Why is the calculated IV a range instead of an exact value?
A: Because stat values are affected by multiple factors (level, nature, IV, EV), without knowing all information, the calculator provides a possible range. The higher the level, the more precise the range.
Q: What's most important in battles?
A: For most Pokémon, Speed is one of the most important stats because it determines turn order. Next are the main attack stat and defensive stats, depending on the Pokémon's role.
